Contemporary Japanese Art : The Jean Pigozzi Collection

The Japigozzi Collection is a private Contemporary Japanese Art Collection, begun in 2008 by Jean Pigozzi. It is a unique and pioneering collection that showcases the young contemporary art scene in Japan.

The Collection includes over 2000 artworks - in a variety of media and disciplines - by around 250 artists, thus presenting an extensive overview of an entire generation of Japanese artists born between the mid 1970s and early 1990s. The majority of these figures have completed the rigorous and traditional training offered by art academies in Japan. Some of most recognised artists in the collection are Nobuyoshi Araki, Keiichi Tanaami, Akira Ikezoe, Kohei Nawa, Sohei Nishino, Mika Ninagawa, and Tomoko Sawada.

For over 30 years, Jean Pigozzi has also assembled the world’s largest collection of contemporary African art (CAAC: www.caacart.com which is regularly exhibited in major museums around the wold. Today Jean Pigozzi is actively involved in enlarging and exhibition both collections.
